EASTENDERS GOLF GROUP RULES & COMPETITIONS 2026

  1. The Eastenders is a social group of 22 golfers plus several "Alternates" that will meet on Tuesdays in 2026

  2. The club has a Treasurer (Ray Alexander), a Coordinator (Steve Davies) and 3 Advisors (Bill Scotti, Gary Spiegal & George Trovato)

  3. Once committed to being a member, you must make it a priority to attend the weekly sessions.  Keep in mind we are a large group that reserved five and six tee-times from the courses.  If we experience no-shows, course cooperation will be lost.

  4. Cart assignments will be formed, and Competitions will be declared by Friday of the week just completed.

  • (A) Emails will be sent out by Wednesday with Results of Tuesday's play once the information is in and tabulated.

  • (B) Those emails will include information on next week's session (Course, Competition & 1st Tee-time).

  • (C) All members must notify the Coordinator (spd0714@gmail.com) by Thursday noon that they will be playing.  They will receive back a "thumbs up" verifying message received.

  • (D) The courses are now requiring our league to provide them with a cart assignment list 4 days prior to our reserved time (Friday).  Anyone on that list who doesn't show on Tuesday must pay the course the greens fee if the course asks for it (Brentwood has indicated they will ask for it).

  • (E) If you have not received a "RESULTS" email by noon Wednesday, request one from the Coordinator (spd0714@gmail.com).

Club dues are $50/season and are to be paid at the first session the member attends.  This includes Alternates on standby.

Competition ANTE is $10/week (Covers the Main Game, Closest to the Pin (CTP), Last Man Standing (LMS - Front, Back) and Total Putts).  The House will not take a cut this year.

          (A) Payouts are set for each Competition and vary with the number of players participating.

          (B) Payouts to competition winners will take place on the following week.

          (C) Eastender members and Alternates can enter only CTP, LMS and Total Putts competitions                  until they obtain a Handicap Index.  That Competition Ante will be $5.

New member's Handicap Indexes are established after playing three 18-hole rounds.  Returning members move forward, adding to their established indexes from last season.

There will be competition for a Club Champion (see below) that will include all players.

Playing Rules

The purpose of standardizing the playing rules is to ensure all handicaps are accurate and the scoring is consistent.

1        Putts…All putts must be holed.  There will be no gimmees.

2        Scoring….The score recorded shall be the actual number of strokes taken plus any penalty strokes.  The Double Par max rule does not apply because it distorts handicaps and total scores submitted.  Equitable Stroke Control will be applied by the Coordinator for handicap index calculations.

3        Balls in the Fairway…Balls in the fairway can always be cleaned if required.  They can also be moved a minimal distance no closer to the hole for the following reasons:  Ball is in a divot, Ball is in a bare spot (no grass on the fairway), Ball is in casual water.

4        Balls in the Rough…Balls in the rough can't be moved except for the following:  Ball is on rocks or cart path, Roots impede a safe swing.  If you must touch the ball to identify it, you must replace it exactly where it was found.  Whenever a ball needs to be moved in the rough, the player should ask another man of the4-some to concur before he moves it.

5        Traps…All balls in traps may be tended to.  The courses are inconsistent in maintaining.  Brentwood - if foxhole is in front of your ball, you may move laterally in trap - no closer to pin.

          (A) If the whole trap is unplayable, because of water or neglect, the ball is to be moved behind the trap (trap remains between the ball and green) (1 stroke penalty).

          (B) If the ball is in an unplayable area of the trap, but part of the trap is playable, move the ball to that area w/o penalty or move ball behind the trap (1 stroke penalty).

6        Lost Ball/Water Hole/Out of Bounds…Should be stroke & distance penalty, but in the interest of keeping play moving along… Drop ball in the rough as close as possible to where ball entered the hazard/out of bounds (1 stroke penalty).  Exception is if there's a drop area (1 stroke penalty).

Note: To speed up play, only search for a lost ball for a reasonable amount of time.  If ball is found, it must be played from where it lies (no penalty) or be declared an unplayable lie and drop it in the rough at the distance where it was found (1 stroke penalty).

Ball next to tree, fence of permanent structure may be moved 2 club lengths no closer to the green (1 stroke penalty).

Possible Competitions

1        Total Putts competition requires that all putts of every hole be counted.  The player with the least number of putts after 18 holes is the winner.  A winner of either Front or Back LMS is ineligible to win Total Putts.  A tie splits the pot.

2        Last Man Standing (LMS)…LMS is a putting competition on the Front Nine and the Back Nine.   A player may win both Front and Back LMS.  A winner of either LMS cannot also win Total Putts.

LMS Rules… On Front 9, once a player's ball is on the green, it must be holed in less than 3 putts.  A player remains in the competition until he takes more than 2 putts.   The player who completes the 9 holes w/o 3-putting and has the least number of putts of all competitors that finish clean is the winner.  If no one finishes clean, the player who lasts the longest with the least number of putts wins.  The number of putts taken on his last hole (the hole on which he was eliminated) counts in his total number of putts.

On the Back 9, competition begins anew.  the same rules as the Front 9 apply on the Back 9.

3        Closest to the Pin (CTP)… Two holes on every course will be designated for CTP competition, one on the front 9 and one on the back 9.  Those holes will normally be the shorter Par 3 holes on the course to give our high handicappers a more realistic chance at success.  If there is no winner, payout goes to the House.  Currently the designated CTP holes are as follows:

Brentwood ( #5 & #14)

Holbrook (#3 & #11)

CTP Rules…Par or better is required to qualify for CTP.

          (A) THE GREEN IS CLEAR OF MARKERS AND ONE OR MORE PLAYERS DRIVE ONTO THE GREEN.

All balls on the green are in contention.  The player whose ball is closest to the hole putts first.  If he pars or birdies, he puts the marker where his drive came to rest and the others are out of contention.  If he does worse than par, the next closest ball gets to putt for CTP, etc.

          (B) THERE IS A MARKER ON THE GREEN AND ONE OR MORE PLAYERS DRIVE THE GREEN AND ARE CLOSER TO THE PIN THAN THE MARKER.

All balls closer to the pin than the marker qualify for CTP.  The closest ball must make par or better.  If he does not, the next closest must make par or better, etc.  If none makes par or better the marker remains as the ball to beat for future foursomes.

4        Individual Low Net…Play 18 holes per the Playing Rules.  Total the player's gross score.  Subtract his handicap to get the Net score.  There will be 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners.

5        Team Low Net…2-man & 4-man Teams picked randomly "from a hat" prior to teeing off.  Team members won't necessarily be in the same foursome.

          (A) Each member plays his own ball from tee through the green.

          (B) The total of the net scores of the Team members is their final score.  If there are an odd number of players, the "odd-man-out's" total is double his net score.

6        Team Scramble…Coordinator will set 2- or 4-man Teams.

          (A) Team must use a minimum of 5 drives from each man (2-man Teams) and 3 drives from each man (4-man Teams).

          (B) Select best ball spot after each shot.  Each man places his ball within a club length of the spot and plays his own ball through his putt.

          (C) If on the green for CTP, putt out for CTP (does not count for Scramble), then replace the ball at best ball spot and putt for Scramble.

          (D) Record lowest score of the team members for each hole.  Team with lowest total score is the winner.  Handicaps are not considered in Scramble competition.

          (E) No LMS competition.

          (F) There will be 1st & 2nd place winners for 2-man Scramble competitions and 1 winner for 4-man competitions.

7        Team Best Ball…Coordinator will set 2- or 4-man Teams.

          (A) Each man plays his own ball from tee through the green.

          (B) The player whose score is the lowest of the team (considering handicaps) on each hole will record that score as the Team score.

          (C) The Team with the lowest total 18-hole score is the winner.

          (D) 2-man Team competition will have 1st & 2nd place winners. 4-man Team competition will have only one winner.

8        Team Alternate Shot…Coordinator will set 2-man Teams.

          (A) Team members will play the same ball from the tee through the green.

          (B) The players will take alternate shots through holing out on the green.  The partner of the player who holes out tees off on the next hole.

          (C) The raw score will be recorded as the Team Score for each hole.

          (D) There are no CTP, LMS or Total-Putt competitions when there is Alternate Shot Competition.

9        Orange Ball…Coordinator will set 4-man Teams.  There will be a separate ante for Orange Ball, apart from the regular competition ante.

          (A) Team members will take turns playing a hole with the orange ball.

          (B) The rotation of players to hit the orange ball this is set upon the 1st tee must be held throughout the round.

          (C) The net score of the player hitting the orange ball will be recorded as the team score for that hole (handicap strokes will be considered for every hole).

          (D) The team that returns the orange ball at the end of 18 holes and has the lowest net score of all that return the ball is the winner.

          (E) If the orange ball is lost, the team is eliminated.  If all orange balls are lost, the team which lasted longest wins.  In case of tie, lowest net at the hole prior to loss of ball is winner.

2026 Club Championship (CC)

Everyone is involved initially.  No entrance fee.

(Winner receives $$, Trophy & Bragging rights: 2nd gets $).

          (A) CC competition will take 3 weeks to complete (Dates to be announced).  Everyone, including eliminated members, will also play regular competitions.

          (B) All members play the 1st week of competition.  Opponents will be drawn from a hat prior to the round…low net winners advance.  If odd number of players, one receives bye.

          (C) The Week 1 winners go on to Week 2 and play against the course and register their net scores.

          (D) The 4 lowest net scores from Week 2 play the final round for the championship on Week 3.  The 2 lowest net scores determine 1st & 2nd place.

          (E) In all the CC competitions, in the case of a tie, the first tiebreaker is Total Putts.  Second tiebreaker is back 9 putts, then front 9 putts.

          (F) If there is still a tie in Week 3, they play head-to-head the following week.
